Betty Jean Stone
Betty Jean Stone died April 16, 2013 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo. She was born on July 23, 1923 at Barnesville, MN to David Vannet and Ethel (Reynolds) Pender. After graduating from Hawley High School, Betty moved to Seattle, WA. While working at Boeing, she met her future husband, Robert R. Stone. They were married on December 24, 1942. When the war ended they moved to Fargo, ND. In 1954, Betty began employment at ND Blue Cross Blue Shield where she worked for thirty years as a claims supervisor. She volunteered for various groups including; the American Legion Auxiliary, the VA, Meritcare Auxiliary, Elim Nursing Home and her church. Betty was an avid card and bingo player. She gave freely of her time and money to others without expecting anything in return. She will be greatly missed as a giving mother, grandmother, sibling and friend.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Violet and Evelyn; and brothers, Ellis and David. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Jan), and Bradley (Lynda) Stone; and her daughter, Barbara (Jack) Neubauer; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.

Thelma I. Wilner
Thelma I. Wilner passed away peacefully on April 8, 2013, in Viking Manor, Ulen, MN, where she has resided since 2000.

Thelma Ilene Snippen was born May 29, 1914. She spent her youth with her parents and siblings in Roseglen, ND. She married Donald Wilner on June 9, 1940. They lived on a farm near Tower City, ND, until 1968, when they moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area.

John A. Carlson, 73, of Hawley, MN, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 in his home.

John A. Carlson was born December 16, 1939 in Morris, MN, the son of Paul and Hazel (Smith) Carlson. He grew up in Morris, MN and graduated from High School there in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Army National Guard on November 22, 1954 at the age of 14 and fully retired on December 16, 1995 after 41 years of service in the Army, Army National Guard, and US Army Reserve. He moved to Hawley in 1969 and served as an Administrative Personnel Officer at the Moorhead Armory for most of his career and retired with a rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four (CWO4).

Florence Carlson
Florence Carlson, 82, of Clarissa, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Centra Care Health System in Long Prairie. Funeral services for Florence were held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Melissa Ehrhardt officiating. Interment was held at Zion Cemetery, Clarissa.

Florence Ann Eisenbraun was born August 7, 1930 in Valentine, Nebraska to Jacob and Anna (Goersch) Eisenbraun. She graduated from Browerville High School in 1948. Florence moved to St. Paul, MN to work at St. Paul Fire and Marine until her marriage to Don Carlson in 1950. Together they farmed in Eagle Valley Township for the next 55 years. After Don's death in 2005, Florence moved to the Heritage Apartments in Clarissa where she enjoyed the fellowship of her friends and neighbors. The last few years she spent at the Todd County Care Center where she enjoyed working out, playing bingo, and winning at cards.

Jesse Daniel Madson, 30, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at his home in Fargo, ND.

Jesse was born May 1, 1982 to Daniel and Tamara (Gatz) Madson in south Fargo. His family moved to rural Hawley, MN where Jesse graduated from Hawley High School in 2001. He attended MSCTC in Detroit Lakes, graduating in May of 2003. Soon after, he began his employment with Kennedy Transmission in Fargo; working there until his death.

Richard M. Robley
Dick Robley, 84, of Moorhead, MN, died on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Richard Marvin Robley was born on January 27, 1929 in Pelican Rapids, Minn., to Herbert and Ida (Gunderson) Robley. He grew up and attended school in Pelican Rapids. After working as a farm laborer he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany. Upon his discharge he returned to Pelican Rapids. He married Audrey Stengl on August 19, 1955. They made their home in Moorhead. Audrey passed away in 1998.

Alice Sandberg was born to Arthur and Mabel Sandberg on November 24, 1921, in Fargo, North Dakota. She grew up in Pettibone, ND and graduated from Pettibone High School in 1939. On November 18, 1947, Alice married Kenneth Hesteness in Jamestown, ND. They moved to Hawley, MN in 1959.

George R. Keeping, 68, of Hawley, MN, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

George was born September 22, 1944 in Detroit Lakes, MN, to George L. and Alice (Carter) Keeping. He moved with his family when he was in 5th grade to a farm near Hawley, MN, graduating from Hawley High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era where he was stationed at a NATO Base in Italy. Following his discharge he worked for Northwestern Bell and later for Hawley Masonry. George was married to Deborah Kasin.
