Evelyn Madson Nelson
Evelyn M. Nelson, 72, of Beavercreek, Ohio died February 21, 2013 in Dayton, Ohio. She was born on a farm on March 18, 1940, three miles north of Gardner, North Dakota in Kinyon Township, Cass County. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Nora Lutheran Church, Gardner. She attended Country School District 107, Noble Township, Hendrum High School, MN, and then Valley City State Teachers College in Barnes County where she met her future husband, Glen, in South American Geography class. After their marriage, they became an Air Force couple and started raising a family, which would include Laura, Mara, and Paul, a long line of cherished pets, and more than a few states. Evelyn had many talents: cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, rug hooking, painting, gardening, furniture refinishing, reading, teaching and learning. Evelyn was Google before there was Google. She was an active member at Peace Lutheran Church and was a 4-H leader for many years. Because of Evelyn, her children are better spellers and speakers. They appreciate the simple life and value both good conversation and shared silence. And, when needed, will say what needs to be said, whether it is popular or not. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Gladys Madson, husband Glen E. Nelson in 2006, and a sister, Karen Olson. Survivors include her two brothers, Leroy and Roger Madson, and her sister Ruth McCrank, her children, Laura (Kurt) Hildebrant, Mara (Stan) Wyatt, Paul (Ila) Nelson, and her seven grandchildren, David, Karen, Kristin, Katy, Zach, Annie, and Hayley, and many nieces and nephews. She is a much loved friend, teacher, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother who is already deeply missed. Funeral services were held on February 26 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3530 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, and were officiated by Pastor Bob Brown. Burial will be at a later date at the Dayton National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, the Alzheimer's Association, or Nora Lutheran Church (Gardner, ND) Cemetery As
