Glen Thomas
Funeral services will be held for Glen Thomas, age 88 of Vining, Minnesota on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Clitherall, Minnesota with Pastor Dawna Hochstein officiating. The hymns will be sung by the congregation, accompanied by Special music provided by Ross Ukkelberg and Ken Gunderson. The pallbearers will be Wes Thomas, Scott Thomas, Chad Thomas, Clint Yliniemi, Kevin Valley and Zack Anderson: Honorary: Bob Norton and Merle Thomas.

Glen Earl Thomas was born on June 5, 1925 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. His parents were the late Edward J. and Olga (Carlsrud) Thomas. Glen graduated from Rothsay High School with the class of 1943. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1946-1948. On September 9, 1951 Glen was united in marriage with Arla Loraine Johnson at Nidaros Lutheran Church. Together Glen and Arla made their home in Vining where they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Glen purchased a service station in Vining and began Thomas Oil Company in 1948. He operated Thomas Oil Company for over 50 years until his “retirement”. Along with owning various gas stations in the area, Glen has raised beef cattle, sold tractors, snowmobiles and had been an insurance agent for American Family Insurance. Glen was the Mayor of Vining for many years and was a founding member of the Vining Fire Department. He built and continued to operate the Vining storage units. He was proud to have served as the President and Director on the Park Region Telephone Board since 1965, retiring in April 2013. Glen and Arla had made many wonderful memories with family and friends, many of them including travels across the country. Glen enjoyed hunting and the card playing that came with it, and spending time with his loved ones at home and at his lake cabin on East Battle Lake.

Steve Fredrickson
Memorial services for Steve Fredrickson, 68, of Groton will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 11th at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Ordained Elder, Tom Louisiana will officiate. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Union Cemetery, Groton under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Steve passed away at his home Saturday, September 7, 2013. Stephen Leslie Fredrickson was born on September 29, 1944 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Selmer and Dona (Clark) Fredrickson. He attended school in Osseo, Minnesota. Steve enlisted in the US Navy in November of 1962 and served for six years. He later was active in the US Coast Guard and received his honorable discharge in 1975. Steve returned to Minnesota and began working in telecommunications. He founded Advanced Business Telephone in Fargo. On June 29, 1993 he was united in marriage with Deborah Wambolt in Fargo. They made their home there for several years before moving to Aberdeen, where Steve was employed at Tel Serve. In 2000, they moved to Groton and for the past seven years, Steve had worked at Wal-Mart. In his earlier years, Steve enjoyed snowmobiling and watching drag racing. He also enjoyed fishing and archery hunting. Celebrating his life is his wife, Deb of Groton, his children, Sherri (Greg) Shepard of Palmer, Alaska; Gene (LeAnn) Fredrickson of Aberdeen; Darren (Amanda Wood) Fredrickson of Moorhead, Minnesota, step-children, Larissa (Scott) Natrass of Castle Rock, Colorado; Casey (Bridget) Hutchison of Fargo, North Dakota; Kalli Hutchison of Grand Forks, North Dakota and eight grandchildren. Steve is also survived by his siblings, Joyce (Tom) Louisiana of American Fork, Utah; Carol (Dave) Schaefer of Little Elm, Texas; Mark (Tree) Fredrickson of Mill City, Oregon and Dennis Fredrickson of Jefferson, Oregon. I went to the Scoots for Hooters charity ride on July 21 and was disappointed by the lack of organization shown. It could have been fun except nobody told us where we were going, nor did anyone ride in the back to make sure all arrived safely.

Louie Johnson
Lowell “Louie” Johnson, 72 years old, died Friday, July 19, 2013, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a brief but courageous battle with a very aggressive lung cancer. He was born December 27, 1940, in Minneapolis, MN, the second of five brothers, to Osten and Esther (Olson) Johnsen (“Ma and Pa”). He spent his younger years growing up in North Dakota, moving around to various small towns that they lived in while his dad worked for the railroad. He graduated High School in Kildeer N.D. and after being discharged from the Army, serving his duty in Germany, he attended UND where he graduated with an Accounting Degree.

Louie married Linda Nelson in 1966 and soon followed the birth of their only child, Jeffrey, that same year. They were married until 1998. They created many great memories together traveling, flying, jet skiing, snowmobiling, skiing, and riding Harley’s together. Some of the best memories were following Jeff’s athletic success through high school and college where they became part of the NDSU Bison family. A little adjustment for Louie as a UND graduate, but he was proud to be a part of both.

Gary R. Culp
Gary Raymond Culp was born on September 24, 1940 in Ada, MN, first born child of Ray and Margie Culp. His childhood was spent on the family farm, where he attended Borup Elementary and High School. He enjoyed playing basketball and football and drove the school bus for a short time, graduating in 1958.

He continued working on the farm with his family, did a short stint in the Marine’s and finally decided farming was not the life for him. He went off to the big city of Moorhead and started working for M & H gas stations and Borgen Dray Line.

Michael (Mike) L. Livdahl
Michael (Mike) Livdahl passed away at the age of 19 on July 7, 2013 in Fargo, ND.

Mike was born to Robert Livdahl and Tammy Kugler on January 25, 1994 in Denver, CO. Mike grew up in Lake Park, MN and graduated from Hawley High School in Hawley, MN in 2012. He enjoyed his friends and being involved in many different activities. He loved snowmobiling, BMX racing, wrestling, baseball, football, water skiing, and WMSTR in Rollag, MN with his brother Chris, Uncle Bill and Cousin Daniel. As a member of the high school Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Mike attended the National FCCLA Competition where his team placed first.

Bruce Ordahl, 47, of Milnor, ND, passed away June 29, 2013, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Bruce Allen, son of Donald and Sharon (Dietzler) Ordahl was born on August 27, 1965 at Breckenridge, MN. He attended kindergarten at DeLamere, grades 1 through 12 at Milnor Public School, graduating from Milnor High School in 1983. Bruce attended North Dakota State College of Science and received an associate degree in Diesel Technology in 1985 and an associate degree in Mechanical Drafting in 2001. He was employed at J & M Printing, Inc., Gwinner, ND. Bruce married Debbie Biss, his long time fiancé on May 10, 2013.

Randy W. Petermann, 58, of Dilworth, MN, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, June 13, 2013, in his home in Dilworth.

Randy Wayne Petermann was born on May 20, 1955, in Moorhead, MN, to Charles and Lorilee (Barth) Petermann. He grew up in Hawley, MN, where he graduated from Hawley High School in 1973. He worked on the family farm with his father. Randy also did custom combining in Nebraska for some time. He later drove beet truck for various farmers in the Hawley area. Randy also worked at Cashwise, but most recently had been working at Pizza Hut.

Joshua Taylor Wold was granted his angel wings on June 10, 2013, following a serious motorcycle accident on June 2, 2013. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Josh had touched in some way throughout his short, yet very memorable life.
