Michael "Mike" Hayen Sr.
Michael "Mike" Hayen Sr., 91, of Cogswell, ND, passed away April 5, 2013, at the Oakes Community Hospital.
Michael Nicholas, son of John and Justina (Harns) Hayen was born May 20, 1921 near Cogswell, North Dakota, where he grew up and attended rural school. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army, and served his country in Hawaii during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, Mike returned to the Cogswell area. In 1947, he married Margaret Bohnenkamp, and together they had five sons; William, Fred, Richard, Tim, and Michael Jr. Mike lived in the Cogswell area his entire life, where he farmed until retiring. He loved the land, and he loved animals, especially horses. In 2010, he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes. Mike was a life long member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Cogswell.

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia is getting ready for a supersized game of “Pong” – on the side of a skyscraper. The classic Atari video game will be re-created later this month on the facade of the 29-story Cira Centre, where hundreds of embedded LED lights will replicate the familiar paddles and ball.

Gerry Mortensen
Gerry Mortensen, 78, of Fargo, ND passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at their winter home in Tierra Verde, FL surrounded by family.
Gerry was born on October 12, 1934 in Council Bluffs, IA to Ray and Ann Mortensen. He attended and graduated from Avoca High School. He also attended and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Gerry was a professional engineer licensed in several states.

Gale “Scott” Burley, 70, West Fargo, ND died on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Sanford Health, Fargo.
Gale Benedict Burley was born Aug. 17, 1942 in Fargo, ND to Gale R. and Barbara (Lisburg) Burley. He grew up on the family farm near Gardner, ND and graduated from Gardner High School. He served four years in the National Guard. On May 12, 1967, he married Kathy Parkhouse in Hillsboro, ND. They made their home in Hillsboro until 1970 when they moved to Gardner. He worked at the Farmers Union Oil in Gardner and Grandin Mfg in Grandin, ND. Scott later served as custodian and bus driver at Cass Valley North School in Grandin. In 1990, they moved to West Fargo. He worked in the meat department at the Northport Hornbachers for 19 years until retiring in 2011.

Ryan Christopher Carden was born March 21, 1973 in Grand Forks, ND to Terry and Julie (Jorgensen) Carden. Ryan grew up in Grand Forks where he graduated from Victory Christian Academy. He attended UND school of nursing and became a registered nurse. He moved to Burnsville where he worked in the home healthcare field in the Minneapolis area. He was once awarded by his employer Nurse of the Year. His interest in martial arts started early in his life. He earned several black belts. He started a martial arts school in Grand Forks. His interest in martial arts followed him to Burnsville where he opened the Wu Chi Martial Arts School.
