Doris V. Milbrandt
Doris Viola Milbrandt, 94, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon, ND.
Doris was born April 17, 1918 to Henry and Viola (Schroeder) Kranz of rural Valley City, ND. She graduated from Noltimier High School in 1935 and then received her teacher's certificate from Valley City State Teachers College, Valley City. She later graduated from Valley City State University with a degree in Elementary Education in 1972. She began her teaching career in Crete, ND area schools during which time she met and married Ervin Milbrandt in 1942. They made their first home on a farm near Stirum, ND and later moved into Stirum. Doris taught grade school in Stirum and they owned/operated the local grocery store. They moved to Lisbon in 1959 when they purchased Lisbon Standard Service. She continued her teaching career in the Lisbon school system up until her retirement in 1980, completing 26 years of teaching. They also owned/operated Melroe Service Center in Lisbon.

Lillian "Lil" Olson
Lillian “Lil” Olson, age 84, of Fargo, ND, died on Sunday, March 31, 2013, in Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND.
Lil was born on July 10, 1928, to George and Margaret (Howell) Halliday in Grand Forks, ND. She grew up and attended school in Ardoch, ND, before moving to Fargo, where she graduated from Fargo High School. Lil then attended Business College in Fargo. Just prior to graduating she was hand-picked to work at a local bank in commercial accounts. On August 14, 1949, she married Howard John Olson at the Gospel Tabernacle in Fargo. Together they had four children. Lil shared her love of music by playing the piano and organ at home and her church. She also loved to sing and sang for the weekly church radio broadcasts, in the church choir and many small groups. Lil had an exceptional gift of hospitality and loved to entertain guests in her lovely home. She also shared this gift by serving many years as the wedding coordinator at First Assembly in Fargo. Most important to her was her personal relationship and faith in her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Her husband was the one true love of her life and her family was her greatest source of love and joy.

Merl David Haakenson, age 40, Marion, ND, loving father, son, brother, and husband, was taken too soon from his earthly family on March 23, 2013.
Merl was born May 21, 1972 at Jamestown, ND, to Ramona and James Haakenson of Dickey, ND. He grew up in Dickey, raised by his loving parents, two brothers, and one sister, as well as under the watchful eye of his "Dickey Village" family.

Frederick “Fred” Michael Shultz, 68, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo. He was born October 13, 1944 to Mike and Vera Shultz in Sheridan, WY. At the age of 10, he and his family moved to Elliott, ND where he spent the remainder of his childhood. In 1962, he graduated from Lisbon High School. Following graduation, he joined the Army National Guard.
After his time in the service he moved to Fargo. In 1966 he married Loretta Holmstrom and they had two children, Michelle and Michael. In 1967 he joined the Fargo Fire Department where he served for 34 years, retiring in 2001.
