Harriet Louise Helland
Harriet Louise Larsen Helland, 90, passed away on March 10, 2013, at Hi-Acres Manor, Eventide, in Jamestown, ND. She was born August 9, 1922, in Fargo, ND, to Harry and Mabel (Andersen) Larsen, Harwood, ND. She attended school at Prosper, ND, and graduated from Oak Grove High School, and Moorhead State Teacher’s College, earning a degree in Elementary Education. In 1946, she married Lester Helland of Amenia, ND. She taught multiple grades in rural schools in Cass County for many years.
Harriet and Lester were members of Messiah Lutheran Church located in North Fargo. She was very active in one of the circles, altar guild, and served many ways within the Church. They were involved in local square dancing clubs and would travel the United States and Canada to square dance. They also enjoyed ballroom dancing. Friday and Saturday nights were always spent at the Elks or Eagles dancing. Harriet was active in the Shrine Ladies activities at El Zagal Shrine Club, and was a member of several other clubs. She was an avid bridge player and also enjoyed bingo.

Florence Tewksbury, 82, Harvey, ND formerly of Mercer went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at her home in Harvey.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at Bethel Baptist Church, Harvey. Burial will be held in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fordville, ND.

FARGO - Three mischievous fans of the Roughriders’ hockey team flouted a taboo when they recently wore hooded Ku Klux Klan robes to taunt the opposing squad. But the Red River High School hockey spectators might not have known just how prevalent the Ku Klux Klan once was in the Red River Valley – nor that Grand Forks, home of Red River High, was a hotbed for the group, which railed against Catholics, blacks, Jews, Asians and foreigners.
