Nellie Foss, 74, Fargo, ND, formerly Cummings, ND, died on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at Essentia Health, Fargo.

Nellie Jane Whitmore was born May 30, 1939 at Erie, ND to DeWitt and Amanda (Mitchell) Whitmore. She grew up and graduated from Colgate High School. Nellie moved to Fargo where she worked for Dr. Hahn Eye Clinic. In 1965, she married Donald Stenberg in Fargo. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND and in 1966, he died in a car accident. Nellie married Dwight Foss on Nov. 27, 1971 at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. They lived in Fargo before moving to a farm at Cummings, ND. They farmed until moving back to Fargo in 1991. She worked at the Evergreens, Sleep Inn and recently at Carol Widman’s Candy.

Emma Fuglesten, 97, of Buxton, ND passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks ND, with all of her children at her side.

Emma Olson was born September 2, 1916 in McVille ND, the third of eight children of Paul and Marie (Brun) Olson. She spent her childhood in Hamer ND. She moved to Grand Forks as a young adult where she met and married John Palmer Fuglesten in 1937. John and Emma lived in rural Buxton where they raised their family of 3 daughters and 5 sons.

Lucille Langley
Lucille Norma (Koehn) Langley was born on June 10th, 1923 near Hewitt, Minnesota and was the youngest child of her parents John and Ida May (Dennis) Koehn. She grew up on the family’s farm and was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Trinity Lutheran Church of Hewitt. In 1940, Lu graduated from Hewitt High School at age 16. She moved to Moorhead where she worked as a hairdresser, then at Manchester Cookie Company and various other jobs supporting herself while she attended Interstate Business College.

While in the Fargo-Moorhead area, Lucille met her life partner of over 63 years, T. “Mark” Langley, who was attending Concordia College. Their courtship was interrupted by Mark’s enlistment in the Army to serve during WW ll. Upon his return, they were engaged and then married on June 25th, 1950 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead.

Clarine (Claire) Hendrickson, 80, Moorhead, MN, died on Monday, November 4, 2013, in Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Clarine Olinda Grefe was born on September 6, 1933, near Truman, MN, to Theodore and Clara (Wessel) Grefe. She grew up and attended school there, graduating as Valedictorian of Truman High School. She then attended the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN, where she was once again Valedictorian when she received her R.N.; from there, she went on to the University of Minnesota where she earned her B.S.N. She taught nursing at the University of Minnesota for three years.

Barbara (Bohn) Hlavaty, 64, Menahga, MN, originally Wahpeton, ND, passed away unexpectadly, Friday, November 1, 2013, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. The Memorial Service will be November 6, Wednesday, 1 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, (920 3rd Ave. N.) Wahpeton, ND. There will be visitation with the family one hour before the service. Inurnment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, have been entrusted with the arrangements.

Barb was born January 20, 1949 at Breckenridge, MN, the daughter of Norman and Vivian (Ehlers) Bohn. She grew up in Wahpeton, was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, ND, and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. Barb attended grade school in Wahpeton. During her youth she spent many winter hours skating in Chahinkapa Park; also developing her passion for reading and playing the piano. She graduated from Wahpeton Senior High in 1967, attending NDSCS and graduating from Moorhead State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in English, and a minor in Philosophy. She was united in marriage to Thomas Hlavaty on August 28, 1970 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. The couple lived in West Fargo, ND, where Barb commuted to Casselton, ND, where she taught English for 32 years. Throughout her teaching career she also taught summer school at Fargo South. The couple retired and moved to Menahga, MN in 2009.

Opal Ableidinger, age 96, of Kensal, ND, died Monday, October 28, 2013, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND.

Born September 1, 1917, in McKinnon Township, Opal was the first child of Joe and Merle (Evans) Lipetzky. She graduated from Kensal High School in 1934. After receiving a teacher’s certificate from Valley City Teachers College, Opal taught school at Newport, WA, and at McHenry, Bordulac, and Kensal, ND, until her retirement in 1973.

Wanda England
Wanda England, 84, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Dilworth, MN, died Friday, October 25, 2013 at Bethany on University, Fargo.

Wanda Ann England was born July 10, 1929 in Moorhead, MN to Herman and Bonnie Hersrud. She attended schools in Fargo. She met Richard England shortly after high school, and they were married on March 27, 1949. They made their home in Glyndon, MN, where they raised their seven children. They belonged to First Congregational Church in Glyndon, where she taught Sunday School and volunteered often for different church functions. She always made sure those who visited their home felt welcome, often times taking in children who needed a safe place to stay. Wanda later worked as a cashier at the Silver Spike Motel in Dilworth, where she worked for many years.
