Letter: ND Legislature stigmatizes kids
There has been a great deal of discussion about the Legislature’s decision not to fund milk breaks for low-income children, but what I find saddest and most disappointing about the decision is that it leaves out certain children and stigmatizes them.

Alida M. Dallmann
Alida M. Dallmann, age 95, of Moorhead, MN, died on Monday, March 4, 2013, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.

Alida Mabel Anderson was born on January 20, 1918, to Oscar and Borghild (Nelson) Anderson in rural Hawley, MN. She grew up and attended school in rural Hawley and attended Lysne Lutheran Church. Alida worked for many farm families in the Hawley area. On February 6, 1941, she married Eddie Dallmann in Clay County. Together they farmed in the Barnesville area until the late 1940’s when they sold the farm and moved to Moorhead. Upon Eddie’s retirement, they made their home on Lake Franklin near Pelican Rapids. Eddie tragically died in a car accident in 1981 at which time Alida moved back to Moorhead. She was a long-time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Alida enjoyed baking cookies and bread which she served to those who visited her. If something went wrong while baking, it was never her fault. It was something wrong with the flour, the milk or the eggs. She also enjoyed flowers, gardening and playing bingo, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her sisters, family and friends over a cup of coffee.

Letter: Not convinced by Sen. Andrist
Sen. John M. Andrist, R-Crosby, N.D.: I was pleased to read on Tuesday, Feb. 26, that the House Education Committee is “poised to substantially increase K-12 funding well above the $1 billion funding level of two years ago. That’s a lot of milk.” So from his statement I can only assume that he is now on board that all children in grade school, some at our state’s expense and support, will now be having a milk break.

Letter: Just who gets that tax break?
Prominent corporate lobby spokesmen Andy Peterson and Pat Finken have recently written commentaries in The Forum criticizing the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party, and particularly me, for our supposed lack of support for the business community simply because we oppose the Republican super-majority’s efforts to cut taxes for out-of-state corporations.

Letter: Anti-Republican bias is obvious
Once again, the anti-Republican bias of The Forum is in full display. The Forum’s coverage of the “milk bill” is a classic example of how The Forum uses selective facts to make a case against Republican legislators.

Kovels Antiques: ‘Folk art’ a varied category of eclectic items
‘Folk art” is the confusing name given to some things made by untrained artists. From the 1930s into the ’50s, antique collectors might have called these pieces “primitive” or named them for a region, like “Pennsylvania German style.”
