Arlene Joyce Gnoinsky passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 surrounded by her family after suffering a stroke. Arlene was born March 15, 1934 to Albert and Olga Regstad in Hendrum, MN. She went to school in Hendrum, lived in Georgetown, MN and later graduated from Moorhead High School.

Arlene married James J. Gnoinsky on November 30, 1957. They made their home in Fargo. Arlene worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone (CenturyLink), retired after 30 years and then worked in the family business, Gnoinsky Brothers Construction until she retired again in 1999.

John B. Sevigny
John B. Sevigny, age 88 of Grafton, ND passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at his home in Grafton.

John B. Sevigny was born February 3, 1926 in Oakwood, ND the son of the late Philorum and Laura (Proulx) Sevigny. He attended St. Aloysius Academy in Oakwood. John was united in marriage to Alice Grabanski on June 3, 1947 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Warsaw. The couple lived and farmed near Oakwood until retiring and moving into Grafton. During the winter months, John worked at Borden’s Potato Plant and enjoyed doing carpentry work.

Funeral services will be held for LaVonne Apland, age 68 of Moorhead, Minnesota (formerly of New York Mills, MN) on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in New York Mills with Reverend Muriel Hachfeld officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. The pallbearers will be Aaron Hillier, Alex Hillier, Joshua Jorgensen, Alan Kingren, Craig Kingren and Ryan Cloutier.

LaVonne Louise Kingren was born on May 2, 1945 in Morris, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Walter and Alma (Mohrman) Kingren. LaVonne grew up and attended school in Morris, Minnesota. She volunteered as a “Grandmother” at the New York Mills Elementary School and enjoyed going to school each day making a difference to the many children whom she loved dearly. LaVonne was deeply involved at her church, First Congregational United Church of Christ in New York Mills. She enjoyed baking and cooking, which brought happiness to many. LaVonne also loved to play WII bowling at Eventide Fairmont, she was a fantastic bowler and won the WII Bowling Tournament. On February 19, 2014 LaVonne passed away peacefully after a short, but courageous battle with lung cancer surrounded by her loving daughters and the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley along with the care givers of Eventide at the Fairmont. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. We are deeply thankful for the care she received from both Hospice and the Fairmont staff during the pas few month.

Olga Mielke (Sonnenberg)
Olga Mielke (Sonnenberg), 97, of Mayville, ND, formerly of Galesburg, ND, passed away February 11, 2014 at Sanford Hospital in Mayville.

Olga was born August 20, 1916 in Vergas, MN to August and Frazine (Schultz) Sonnenberg. She grew up in Vergas and married her fishing buddy, Otto Mielke, October 5, 1940 in Grand Forks, ND. They moved to Galesburg in 1945. Otto and Olga were partners and served the Galesburg community for 30 years with the Standard Oil Co. They enjoyed 58 years together with their family, community, traveling and of course fishing. For 35 years they hosted many family gatherings at their camper trailer on Lake Ida. Olga's greatest pleasures were to pack a lunch and spend the day in a boat with Otto or watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren blossom, each in their own personality. On a rainy afternoon or after the evening meal, she loved a game of Rummy with the grandchildren.
