James Joseph Maher
James Joseph Maher (Jimmy), age 37, formerly of Bowman and Bismarck died unexpectedly at his home in Phoenix, AZ on Tuesday April 23, 2013. He attended elementary school in Bowman, ND. As a child you could find him at the Bowman Golf Course playing many rounds of golf. James graduated from St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck, ND where he excelled in wrestling, football, and golf. He was a starter on the football team, was recognized for his outstanding achievement as most valuable in wrestling, and made the All-Conference team in golf. James’ love of golf earned him a scholarship to play at Eastern Michigan University where he made the All-Mid Atlantic Conference team. After graduating with a degree in Business Administration, he followed his dream to play golf and moved to Arizona where he worked as an Assistant Pro at TPC Scottsdale. He spent the last ten years working in finance, where he enjoyed the friendship of his coworkers. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He enjoyed skiing and swimming with his nieces and nephew at the lake, he was known for his sense of humor, stories and infectious laugh. James’ constant companion was his faithful dog Roxy. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather John Maher and Grandfather and Grandmother Alvin and Marjorie Abrahamson. He is survived by his mother Linda Maher of Detroit Lakes, MN, and his Father Tim Maher of Dickinson, ND; his step-mother Pamela Maher of Fargo, ND; his Grandmother Betty Maher in Bismarck, ND; his brother Jared (Elizabeth) and nieces Annabelle and Emmalise and nephew John; Sister Jana Maher; Sister Bailey Maher; numerous Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and Friends in North Dakota and Arizona.
The funeral mass will be held Friday, May 3rd at 12:30 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan, ND. There will be a family service on Thursday, May 2nd at 7:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used to establish the James Maher Golf Scholarship fund. Donations can be sent to Kirkwood Bank and Trust, Bismarck North Dakota.
