William Barnard
William Barnard, 94, Fargo, ND died on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo.

William Norman Barnard was born July 4, 1918 to Chester and Margaret (Bogenreif) Barnard. He grew up and attended school in Fargo. He worked all his life on the railroad for Great Northern and Southern Pacific as a brakeman. He married Betty Fisher in 1961. They lived in the Fargo area and Sacramento, CA. He retired in 1978. Betty died in 1991. He spent winters in Apache Junction, AZ and summers in Fargo and the Detroit Lakes, MN area. He has resided at Bethany Retirement Living since 2010.

Tom Gustafson
Thomas “Tom” Gustafson, 55, of Fargo, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 in his home. Tom was born September 3rd, 1957 at St. Ansgar in Moorhead, MN to Norman and Geneva (Carrier) Gustafson. Tom grew up in West Fargo and attended school in West Fargo school district. Tom was united in marriage to Kathy Malsom on September 14th, 1990 in Linton, ND. Tom was self employed. He enjoyed fishing, hanging out with his buddies and working on cars. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and spending time with his family.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kathy, Fargo; mother, Geneva Gustafson; siblings, Betty (Michael) Sauvageau , Fargo, Glenn (Donnette) Gustafson, Fargo, Bonnie (Rocky) Swanson, Fargo, Dave (Kathy) Gustafson, Fargo, Marty (Bob) Schaeffer, Fargo, Terry (Brenda) Gustafson, Fargo, Shelly (Sean) Finneman, Fargo.

Nancy Lawson
The heart of the Lawson family, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Nancy Lee (Spicer) “Nan” Lawson, surrounded by loving family, was called to heaven by our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Nancy was born on April 22, 1940, the daughter of Henry and Lorene (Olmstead) Spicer. She grew up in Grand Forks and attended St. Michaels School. In her younger years, Nan was a carhop at Jacoby’s Drive Inn in Grand Forks. Nan was married to the love of her life, Walter Lawson, on August 16, 1958 in the Arvilla Presbyterian Church. The couple was married for 54 wonderful years. They made their home on a dairy farm south of Arvilla where she was a wife, mother and homemaker to her 5 children. Walt and Nan retired and spent the rest of their lives in Larimore. Family and friends were the passion of Nancy’s life. She always opened her home to anyone who wanted to visit over a fresh pot of coffee. She was filled with compassion and kindness and chose to use these gifts in helping others while she worked as a CNA for 30 years in Larimore and Northwood. Nan loved listening to music while working around the house as she cleaned and danced. With a zest for life, she loved to bowl, play cards, cook, chat, dance, and care for her family, She was a Sunday School teacher, active in the Ladies Aide and lifelong member of the Arvilla Presbyterian Church; president of the Arvilla-Emerado Lioness Club as well as a lifelong member. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walt; her two grandchildren, Michael and Amanda; her parents; and her siblings, Peggy, Jackie, Allen, Evelyn, and Darrell.

Kathleen Mary (Schmidt) Kressin, 76, of Richville, MN died Saturday, March 16th at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, MN. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, March 20, at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church, Maine, MN with Father LeRoy Schik as Celebrant. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer vigil at 7 PM at St. James Catholic Church, Maine. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Kathleen, more fondly known as Kathy, was born in Fergus Falls, MN on April 9th, 1936 to Gustave and Myrtle (McManus) Schmidt. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School and went on to attend St. Francis School of Nursing in Breckenridge, MN, where she earned her registered nurse degree. She worked as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital, where she met David Kressin, whom she eventually married.

Clifford Wayne Hackett, 90, of Fargo, formerly of Sarles, ND, died Saturday March 9, 2013 at home.

Wayne was born May 14, 1922 in Hannaford, ND and lived for his first three months at the Crittenden Home in Fargo. At age 3 months a nurse transported him on the train to Sarles, where he was adopted by JB and Jennie (Osborn) Hackett, and lived most of his life, until moving in 2005 to Fargo.
