Nick Allen Lyons, 25 of Lidgerwood, ND passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at his home in Lidgerwood. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Frank Family Funeral Home in Lidgerwood, ND and burial in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Lidgerwood. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. at the Frank Funeral Home and also Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Lunch will be served at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Lidgerwood following the burial.

Nick Allen Lyons was born on December 2, 1987 in Breckenridge, MN, the son of Sandy Boutain. He attended Lidgerwood Public School and graduated in 2006. He resided in Lidgerwood where he pursued a career in farming with his grandparents Lester and Jackie Lyons & uncle for many years.

Berniece Elizabeth Alley
Berniece Elizabeth Alley, age 76 of Cooperstown, ND, formerly Glenfield, ND passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND with family by her side.

Berniece was born in Cooperstown on May 14, 1936 to Oscar and Amanda (Fadness) Hogie. She grew up and attended school in Cooperstown, graduating Cooperstown High School. She was employed by the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as well as other small jobs along the way. Berniece married Eugene Alley on February 17, 1956. After their marriage the couple made their home in Glenfield where they owned and operated the Glenfield bar for several years. Berniece loved to cook and entertain guests. She was a member of the Carl Bostrom Legion Auxiliary and the Prairie Faith Lutheran Church.

Gerald Hopewell
Gerald Hopewell, 80, Fargo, ND died May 8 at Bethany Homes in Fargo. Gerald was born Feb. 1, 1933 in Oakes, ND to Guy and Emma (Kern) Hopewell. He attended rural Milnor, ND school. He married Geraldine Johnson Feb. 11, 1953 in Lisbon, ND. Gerald worked for ranchers near Lisbon and Milnor, ND, Montana and Wisconsin. He operated a logging and salvage yard in Leonard, ND. He served as a minister for Church of God Seventh Day in Fargo. He retired in 1995. Gerald is survived by his wife, Geraldine; children, Cindy Hopewell of West Fargo, Dianne (Dale) Mischke of Kindred, Karen (Kenneth) McMahon of Kindred, Geoff (fiance, Kari) Hopewell of Kindred, Jesse (Wanda) Hopewell of Kindred, Jack (Lori) Hopewell of Kindred, Jeremy (Pamela) Hopewell of Kindred and Lucinda Hopewell of Kindred, a sister; Shirley Funk of Lisbon and a brother, Marvin Hopewell of Milbank, SD. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Faye Tangen and Lorraine Lundin and a brother, Clark.

The funeral service will be at 2:30 PM Monday, May 13th at Trinity L

Virginia Louise Weigel, 83, resident of Callaway, MN, died Wednesday, May 8 at Essentia Health in Fargo.

Virginia Louise Stach was born September 16, 1929 on the farm near Wolverton, MN to Max and Anna (Swenson) Stach. At age 6, her family relocated to a farm near Callaway, MN. Virginia attended country school in Callaway Township through the 8th grade. She worked her way through high school by waitressing at the Graystone Hotel, and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1949. On October 31, 1949, Virginia was united in marriage to Sherman Weigel at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Callaway. They resided near Callaway and started their family. They lived briefly in the Twin Cities and Richwood, MN before moving in 1961 to their current home, her childhood farm.

Jim Grossnickle, 64, Kindred, ND died on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

James Riley Grossnickle was born Jan. 28, 1949 at Fargo, ND to John and Alma (West) Grossnickle. He grew up in Page, ND. The family moved to West Fargo when he was in elementary school. Jim graduated from West Fargo High School in 1967 and served in the US Marines. He married Deb Sifritt on April 29, 1972 in Fargo. They made their home in Fargo, Wahpeton, West Fargo and eventually moved to Kindred in 1991. He began working for Burlington Northern Railroad in 1979 and in 1987, he started with Red River Valley and Western Railroad where he served as engineer and yard foreman.

Myrtle Irene Verduin
Myrtle Irene Carlson was born October 28, 1914 on the family farm of Frank and Sophie (Sorby) Carlson, Hastings, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church. Myrtle attended and was a graduate of Hastings High School. As a young lady, she moved to Fargo, ND where she did housekeeping, prepared meals and nannied. She also worked at the County Hospital. Later, she moved to Sioux City, IA, continuing to work in housekeeping.

On November 16, 1942, she married Harold J. TenPas. They farmed in the Litchville area until his death in 1963. She continued living on the farm.
