Seizures linked to dyes PressPass

Dear Dr. Fox: As you have written before, red dye 40 may cause seizures in dogs. I have found that it does so in my 12-year-old Aussie mix, Petey. In addition, I have found that Petey will have a seizure when I give him a bit of cheddar cheese that includes the additive annatto. I now read every label carefully (as I have for several years) to be sure that neither of these ingredients is included in anything that Petey might ingest.

OUR VOICES 9 in the morning

This morning brought some unexpected travels today as I met up with Tim for a solid 9-mile run before the sun peaked over the horizon. We met on a north Fargo street, and again chose to run in town to avoid a cool breeze during the final miles of the run. It was a terrific run, even though my legs

Happiness IS a warm puppy!

Charles Schulz's cartoon character Linus once declared that "happiness is a warm puppy." I can attest to that. I got to hold a puppy yesterday, and it made me smile all day just thinking about it. My boss brought in his new Labrador puppy, a female who just stood still on the floor until

OUR VOICES Dog treats

Joining up with the Tuesday night running group was a blast last night: It was a terrific night to run and heading out with a group seems to make the time fly by. But one of the best parts is sitting (or standing) around afterward, chatting with friends and catching up on what's going on in their w

OUR VOICES Washing the dog

"You can't choose the ways in which you'll be tested." - Robert J. Sawyer As I readied for this morning's run, Riley stood at the back door with his nose pressed against it. He was determined to go with today, which I couldn't pass up. He needed his doggy exercise even if it put a crinkle
