GRAND FORKS – American Indian students at the University of North Dakota who have sued the university, the state and top state officials in federal court over the Fighting Sioux nickname have told the court they are encouraged by steps taken to retire the name, but those developments “in no way undermine (their) request for damages based on the defendants’ past conduct.”
