Take a look at what you are saving in your home. Are you saving your kids’ school papers? Are you saving their toys, baby clothes or books? Or perhaps you are holding onto grandma’s china for your daughter or son. Maybe it is a set of bedroom furniture that is a maybe-someday-somebody-will-need-it piece of furniture.
I don’t know when it happened. There is no magic date I circled on the calendar that I planned and practiced for. There is no book called “What To Expect When Your Child Becomes An Adult.” One day I was busy going to kids’ activities, making sure my kids ate a balanced diet and brushed their teeth twice a day, and the next thing I know they don’t “need” me.

Hold on one second. I am stirring, as I forgot to wrap the gifts. Oh, and I forgot to bake the cookies. And never mind the kids all looking cute in matching outfits, and that pre-lit tree – not so much lit anymore!
As a parent, I travel down the guilt-trip road far too frequently. I don’t know where it came from. But it is there, that little voice in my head telling me I could do better. Telling me I should be doing better.
