PAUL – Despite the fact that the Minnesota Wild is about to embark on its toughest stretch of games so far this season without one of its best players, the team felt it “dodged a bullet” Tuesday when it was determined leading scorer Zach Parise would miss two to three weeks because of a left foot contusion.
WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Niklas Backstrom didn’t know he would be between the pipes when the Minnesota Wild visited the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
The short notice didn’t matter, as the Wild goalie made 37 saves in the surprise start as Minnesota continued its dominance over the Jets.
MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens left winger Max Pacioretty and center David Desharnais both needed to start producing offensively, and coach Michel Therrien’s decision to line them up with right winger Brendan Gallagher proved to be just the ticket.
