EDINA, Minn. – Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin will have minor shoulder surgery soon to address a nagging injury he played with last season.
Harvin revealed the news via Twitter on Monday night, and Vikings coach Leslie Frazier confirmed it on Tuesday while attending a speaking event for his friend and former NFL coach, Tony Dungy. Frazier declined to specify which shoulder Harvin hurt, but he said he sprained the AC joint during the season.
PITTSBURGH – Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward retired on Tuesday rather than try extending his career with another team.
The decision comes three weeks after Ward was released by the Steelers in a salary cap maneuver.
Ward was the Most Valuable Player of the 2006 Super Bowl after catching five passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in Pittsburgh’s 21-10 victory over Seattle.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – The Minnesota Vikings have signed fullback Jerome Felton.
The team announced the addition Tuesday. The 25-year-old Felton was a fifth-round draft pick by the Detroit Lions from Furman in 2008. Claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers before last season, he was let go and finished the year with the Indianapolis Colts. He was an unrestricted free agent.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Randy Moss is getting another chance in the NFL.
Moss is back after reaching a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers, announced by the team late Monday. ESPN first reported the move a day before the start of the free agency period.
Moss will fill a big void for the reigning NFC West champions.
The 35-year-old Moss worked out with the 49ers earlier in the day – and former NFL quarterback and current coach Jim Harbaugh participated.
“Jim Harbaugh makes 49ers veteran emergency board: Best coach’s workout in NFL history (especially while wearing khakis & a sweatshirt),” Niners CEO Jed York tweeted.
While Viking fans are a little down lately, Packers fans are feeling great with Last year's Super Bowl in their hip pockets and an impressive start to 2011. What better time to hit the blog world with your Green Bay gold-and-green love?
So now that the Vikings have started the 2011 season off on the wrong foot and everyone, including myself, is predicting 16 more weeks of tears and heartbreak, I thought I would take a closer look at what the first game of season has really meant for the purple.
