The following is a statement e-mailed to The Forum on Wednesday by Derek Walters, spokesman for the Energy and Environmental Research Center in Grand Forks, in response to a request for the EERC’s reaction to the North Dakota State Water Commission’s review of the EERC’s waffle plan for flood control.
Cass County officials will continue to look at alternative alignments to the proposed North Dakota diversion and additional projects to help communities outside of the channel’s benefit, leaders said Wednesday at the county’s last informational meeting.
The deadlines associated with permanent flood control for Fargo and Moorhead firmed up last week. Other lines, specifically just how far flood planners will go to accommodate objections to a diversion option, also got clearer.
I applaud the efforts of the eight prominent members of our community who seek to find a solution to the problem of recurrent flooding in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Certainly flood diversion is a topic for the resolution of this very important problem.
