It’s time for farmers, rural Minnesotans and everyone who drives a car to fight back. Big Oil companies have been punching us in the mouth for too long, and if we don’t punch back, the knockout blow will be coming soon.
Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, I am again struck by the irony of our society. We take the day which has been set aside for giving thanks for the blessings in our lives, and follow it by a day which brings out the ugly side of humanity: Black Friday.
There is a fundamental reality that we must live with at Minnesota State University Moorhead: when enrollment shrinks, you need fewer faculty members. Our enrollment has declined 10.9 percent since 2010 so now we face a need for a corresponding faculty reduction.
The recent rants against North Dakota State University and its leadership by legislators from northwestern North Dakota should concern their constituents as their attacks are completely without foundation or merit, and calls their credibility as state leaders into question.
While following the now national discussion of Minnesota State University Moorhead’s proposed solutions to a budget shortfall, I couldn’t help but be dismayed at MSUM’s stance towards the departments (and faculty) that make up the liberal arts because it is a disservice to the most important element of the university: the students.
Recently, Joel Heitkamp had Sen. Dwight Cook , R-Mandan, on his KFGO radio show. When asked for comment on Kathleen Sebelius’ responsibility for the healthcare.gov website, Sen. Cook felt it appropriate to say on live radio:
