If someone deliberately smashed the eggs of bald eagles we wouldn’t call it “reproductive health care” for the eagle population. But in her June 7 Forum column, Jane Ahlin defended the work of abortionist George Tiller by repeating the phrase “reproductive health care.”
Sarah Haeder writes (Forum, June 4) with much emotion but no logic to express her grief for the loss of a friend. Lest she influence vulnerable women and superficial readers, I am compelled to respond.
The abortion debate came to the forefront with the murder of Dr. George Tiller, an action rightly condemned by the mainstream pro-life community. I appreciated Jane Ahlin’s Sunday, June 7, column in which there was a stated desire to see the abortion debate find “common ground.”
On Sunday (May 31), one of the most kind and gentle and ethical men you could know was murdered in the name of “life.” Dr. George Tiller provided abortion services to women who had nowhere else to turn. He and his staff provided care with love, and the walls of his clinic were covered with cards and letters of gratitude. We mourn the loss for his family and friends – and the loss for women.
