FARGO – With the threat of a federal injunction from project opponents looming, diversion leaders moved ahead Thursday with a ring levee around three communities south of the Fargo-Moorhead area in hopes of starting construction in July.
DULUTH, Minn. — Allegations in a lawsuit challenging the planned construction of the Fargo-Moorhead flood diversion project rely heavily on future determinations that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has not yet made, attorneys for the project argued Thursday in seeking the dismissal of most counts.
MOORHEAD - Mark Askegaard is one of scores of farmers south of Fargo-Moorhead who are using the courts and political influence against a $1.8 billion Red River flood diversion project they say will forever change their lives, land and towns.
FARGO – Diversion leaders have decided they will provide additional crop insurance to farmers in the flood protection project’s so-called storage area. They’re just not sure what that insurance will look like.
FARGO – Flood-prone lands north of West Fargo stand to gain the most from the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion, while the West Acres area will receive the least additional flood protection from the proposed project, according to a modeling map commissioned by the Diversion Authority.
FARGO – Diversion leaders are looking to get out of the landlord game.
The Diversion Authority signaled it will look into selling the three houses in Oxbow – all of which would sit inside the proposed ring levee to be built south of the metro area – it bought from homeowners suffering medical difficulties through a process called hardship acquisition.
FARGO – The scope of authority and responsibilities of the Flood Diversion Board of Authority will be topics of the “First Friday” meeting of the League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley at noon Friday at the Sons of Norway, 722 2nd Ave. N.
Nation’s focus has shifted to upkeep of aging infrastructure rather than proposed projects
FARGO – If the U.S. House of Representatives joins the Senate in authorizing the Fargo-Moorhead diversion later this year, the project could still get lost in the line of more than 1,000 other U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects OK’d by Congress but still waiting on federal funding.
