Says Cass County's use of sales tax money goes against ballot measure’s intent
A Fargo city commissioner who opposed a countywide sales tax approved by voters in November now objects to talk of Cass County using some of the tax revenues for home buyouts.
Debate over Fargo’s new sign code continued Monday, but this time discussion focused on what will happen in the interim if commissioners decide not to repeal the ordinance and it goes to voters in June 2012.
Any facility housing four or more felons must obtain permit from city
Group homes designed for sex offenders and other felons will require public notification and city approval before locating in Fargo.
The sign code update fueled strong opposition – and in some cases heated commentary – during the more than a year of meetings on the overhaul. Uniformed police officers attended some of the sign code meetings, including the Oct. 4 City Commission meeting, at Mayor Dennis Walaker’s request.
Fargo City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn on Wednesday ramped up his previous dissent over Cass County’s half-cent sales tax for flood protection by publicly stating that he won’t vote for it because of what he called “really vague” ballot language.
Commission takes proactive approach
Fargo is developing a tree preservation policy for private developers, but the city has taken a proactive approach to preserving and planting trees on public land, City Forester Scott Liudahl said.
