MINNEAPOLIS – With Sydney Coffey approaching the final game of her high school career, the Hopkins Royals made sure to take care of their crying before the Class 4A title game.
For most of the second half of their romp over Osseo, it was all smiles.
Sydney and sister Nia Coffey each scored 15 points as top-ranked Hopkins cruised to its second straight 4A state championship with a 77-55 win against the Orioles on Saturday night.
“We did all the crying and stuff before the game,” Sydney Coffey said as her teammates cut down the nets at Target Center. “It’s a great feeling. I’m so glad that me and my sister got a chance to play and win the state championship together.”
WEST FARGO - Barb Metcalf has a bulletin board in her office with press clippings from this season. She added a shiny green three-leaf clover to the board prior to last week’s East Region girls basketball tournament.
“A three-leaf because we make our own luck,” Metcalf said with a smile. “It’s a special time of the year, the excitement.”
