Fargo - One of the featured speakers at this weekend’s Blue Key Honor Society national conference will be addressing the topic of inspiration and achievement. It’s an area Amanda Smock could probably write a book about.
Frisco, Texas - It was a collection of thousands and thousands of hellos and a few goodbyes on Saturday afternoon at Toyota Stadium. Hello history, it’s nice to meet you. My name is North Dakota State, and you can put us in that dynasty category, thank you very much.
Fargo - There was something about No. 34 leading the Bison players out of the locker room and into the darkened Fargodome on Friday night that makes you wonder about the limits of mental toughness. Like, there aren’t any limits with these North Dakota State players.
Fargo - North Dakota State is fully equipped with assistant coaches, medical staff and support crew that are perhaps equal to the football team’s 13-0 record. All amenities are present and accounted for.
Fargo - It was 2007 when the University of Illinois football fans were frustrated and outraged by the school deciding to get rid of Chief Illiniwek, the school mascot. For a period of time, the Illini backers probably forgot that mascots don’t win football games, the players do.
Fargo - Marcus Williams was better known in high school as a basketball player who also was a receiver on the football team. He was a guard on an undefeated Minnesota state championship team at Hopkins that could have beaten most prep teams in the country.
Fargo - As long as the wind is blowing from the north, air traffic into Hector International Airport takes a southerly approach into the runway, giving opposing college football teams a good view of the Fargodome.
Fargo - The Big Mountain had the end zone in mind when North Dakota State called a hook-and-ladder play in the first half Saturday afternoon. Nothing would have made Senior Day more mesmerizing than to see 6-foot-6, 314-pound left tackle Billy Turner score a touchdown.
Fargo - Nobody can express the exact reasons why, but for some reason, the fall football camp at North Dakota State in 2010 was different. The atmosphere, the chemistry, the team dynamic – all just a little bit different.
Youngstown, Ohio - Ron Jaworski got his start on these hallowed eastern Ohio grounds, slinging his Division II right arm into football history. He got a nickname for his efforts, too: the Polish Rifle.
Fargo - Roger Kish won 117 wrestling matches while competing for the University of Minnesota in a career that included a Big Ten Conference title and an NCAA Division I runner-up finish. He was a team captain and one of those leaders that every program needs.
