UND men’s hockey climbs to No. 4 in polls released Monday

GRAND FORKS – After winning the WCHA Final Five championship and collecting a third consecutive Broadmoor Trophy the University of North Dakota has made significant jumps in two polls released Monday. The Sioux climbed from No. 12 to No. 4 in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.

UND earns top seed for West Region

GRAND FORKS – The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team is headed back to St. Paul. One day after winning the Western Collegiate Hockey Association championship in the Xcel Energy Center, the Sioux found out that they’ll be headed back to the home of the Minnesota Wild for the first round of the NCAA tournament. UND’s opponent will be Western Michigan, which finished second in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association this season and won the league’s postseason tournament, defeating Miami and Michigan this weekend. The Sioux-Broncos game will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Regional-host Minnesota plays Boston University in the regional’s other first-round game.

UND needs a win to help get an Men's NCAA hockey tournament bid

ST. PAUL – Only one team has had a chance to check out the Broadmoor Trophy since it was redesigned after the 2009 season. The hardware, in the shape of the famous Colorado Springs hotel, has found a home at UND and Ralph Engelstad Arena for the past 24 months. The Sioux are back-to-back Western Collegiate Hockey Association men’s playoff champions. They’ve won 10 straight league playoff games – tying the longest streak in the last 17 years. And while they won’t be the favorites when the WCHA Final Five begins today, they expect to have targets on their backs.
