WASHINGTON – Sens. Kent Conrad and John Hoeven and Rep. Rick Berg announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding $1.6 million in federal grants to organizations and government agencies throughout North Dakota to combat homelessness.
The Fargo Park Board will be asked tonight to give more help to the Urban Plains Center, but a group in charge of an international youth hockey tournament has decided to drop a request that would have used the Park District’s tax-exempt status to save the group nearly $40,000.
South Fargo’s Urban Plains Center is again asking the Park District for some taxpayer help.
Gravel parking lots for the new hockey arena that were supposed to cost $125,000 will now cost nearly $225,000, the Park District’s facilities subcommittee was told Wednesday.
More than a half-million overweight trucks are allowed onto the nation’s roads and bridges – an increasingly routine practice that some officials say is putting dangerous wear and tear on an already groaning infrastructure.
