Thursday review: ChicBuds good, but check fit first
FARGO - Music fuels my summer runs, and I like to run uninterrupted. No cords tangling, no armband slipping down, no readjusting.
After months of either holding my iPhone during runs or running with a too-big armband, I tried out ear buds and an armband by ChicBuds.
ChicBuds' website says the company produces "flirty and fun" fashion audio collections at an affordable price point.
My black ikat-print "Chic Physique" iPhone 5 armband and matching "Arts" ear buds are more stylish than the plain black armband options I've typically purchased.
The armband is $29.99, and the ear buds are $19.99 to $29.99 on Target's Web site, with a total package cost of about $60. Other armbands I've purchased were in the $20-$30 range, and ear buds can cost as little as $5 and more than $30. I think the price is fairly reasonable if you're a frequent runner/exerciser who values being able to listen to music while working out.
The armband is made for the iPhone 5, but my iPhone 4S fit. The phone slides into the armband case, and a Velcro closure secures it to the arm. I like how snug the phone fit in the case and how easy it was to get in.
The machine-washable armband seemed to fit my arm, but it slipped a lot while I ran. The armband also seems too small for people with muscular arms and too big for people with really thin arms.
The ear buds had a clear sound, and the flat cords truly didn't tangle. The oblong shape of the ear buds fit snuggly in my ears and didn't bounce out while I was running. The ear buds can be customized to fit with different sizes of gel tips.
Bottom line: ChicBuds' armband and ear buds are trendy and useful, but try out the armband before purchasing to make sure it fits.
