FARGO — Two local high school students were named North Dakota representatives for the 2017 National Youth Science Camp.

Mona Abdelrahman and Mira May were among the 108 delegates who attended the camp in Green Bank, West Virginia.

Abdelrahman graduated from Fargo South and plants to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall.

May is a Fargo North graduate who plans to attend Pomona College or Duke University and major in molecular biology.

The prestigious national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program was created in 1963 and features a nearly month-long program of academics by science industry leaders, engineers and researchers as well as outdoor adventures such as backpacking, caving and rock climbing.

Graduating high school seniors are selected based on merit and achievements, and the program is provided at no cost.
