Helpful hint: Put dry teabags in flats to help absorb odor

FARGO - Despite the erratic temperature changes typical of "spring" in Fargo-Moorhead, I've dusted off my fall flats.

As long as there's no chance of sinking down into a 3-foot snow drift, they're getting worn.

My favorite is a pair of white canvas flats I got on sale at a Nine West outlet. Unfortunately, although canvas is comfy, it notoriously retains odor.

Instead of spraying them with Febreze, I tried a new (to me) technique: putting a couple of dry tea bags in them to help absorb smelliness.

I used a few bags of Bigelow Cozy Chamomile Herb Tea. Although I like the way it smells, I don't particularly enjoy drinking it, so it's perfect for shoe-freshening.

I stuck three bags in each shoe, one tucked in the toe, and let them sit overnight. They didn't smell fresh-out-of-the-box new in the morning, but it did make a difference.
