FARGO – Public library patrons here borrowed a record 1 million items last year, the city said today.

Books and magazines made up nearly half of the total and digital media and other non-print items made up more than a third. The rest are inter-library loans and renewals, according to Melisa Duncan, a library spokeswoman.
The biggest month for the library was June with nearly 100,000 items checked out. The biggest increase came from ebooks, with 55,000 checked out for an increase of 44 percent compared to the year before. Library patrons also broke another record with nearly 20,000 attending library programs, the city said.
