West Fargo gets new water, ice rescue gear

WEST FARGO—The West Fargo Fire Department has acquired new water and ice rescue

equipment. The $28,000 in funds for the purchases came from private donations and

department fundraising efforts.

The Central Station received a 16-foot Zodiac Grand Raider boat with a 20-horsepower Mercury Outboard and trailer, life safety ropes and four sets of ice/water rescue suits and helmets.

For the Southside Station, there is a new 15-foot Oceanaid Rapid Deployment Craft, life safety ropes and four sets of ice/water rescue suits and helmets.

Additionally, eight new personal floatation devices were purchased for those members working in the boats and on the shore.

The new equipment will allow for rapid first response capabilities to rescue victims trapped in ice and water situations, according to a news release from West Fargo police.
