2 dead in 5-vehicle crash in Minnesota

FORESTON, Minn.—Two men are dead after a five-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Foreston in Mille Lacs County.

Killed in the crash were Travis A. Kiel, 35, Foley, and Robert Ehrlichman, 35, of Holdingford, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

Kiel was driving east in a Kia Optima on Highway 23 and preparing to make a left turn when his vehicle was rear-ended by a Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Ryan A. Allen, 19, Milaca. Kiel's Kia then rolled into the westbound traffic lane in front of two oncoming Harley Davidson Softail motorcycles.

Ehrlichman was riding one of the motorcycles that struck the passenger side of the Kia, lodging itself in the Kia and ejecting Ehrlichman. The Kia then began spinning across the westbound lanes.

The other motorcyclist, Brenda M. Ehrlichman, 52, Holdingford, was seriously injured and taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

A Mercedes, driven by Jonathan G. Darby, 17, Minnetonka, stopped to assist with the crash and the Kia spun into the wheel of the Mercedes causing no damage. Darby and Allen had no apparent injuries.

The fatal crash was reported at 2:27 p.m.
