Godfather's Pizza in Fargo closes, leaving none remaining in F-M
FARGO -- The community’s last Godfather’s Pizza location has gone out of business.
A brief message greeting callers to Godfather’s Pizza, 4340 13th Ave. S., could be heard Friday, Jan. 6, morning.
“We would like to thank our customers for their past patronage, but this location is now permanently closed,” the message said.
Christopher Allen, who owned the restaurant with his wife, Wendy Allen, said the eatery closed Sunday, Jan. 1.
“We’re just scaling back, I guess you could say,” he said Friday.
Allen and his wife also own a Godfather’s Pizza in Detroit Lakes, Minn., which will remain open, he said.
The restaurant chain, headquartered in Omaha, Neb., has 550 locations, according to the company’s website. “Express” versions of Godfather’s Pizza remain in business in western North Dakota’s Williston, Watford City, Stanley and Dickinson.
At one time, Godfather’s Pizza had several locations around Fargo-Moorhead, including a franchise in former upscale convenience store Cheetah-Mart, 4554 Brandt Drive S., before the store closed in 2011.
There were also restaurants in business along First Avenue North in Moorhead and South University Drive in Fargo. More recently, a Godfather’s Pizza opened in Moorhead Center Mall in 2012 and closed in the spring of 2015, replaced by Indian restaurant Everest Tikka House.
Allen said he wasn’t involved in those previous Godfather’s Pizza locations in the community. He became an owner of the south Fargo store, which opened in 1989, six years ago.
