Water safety has no correlation with funky smell coming from Fargo faucets
FARGO — The city of Fargo is reminding everyone the water is safe to drink after some people complained about an odd smell.
For the last few days, some have noticed a musty odor in the water.
Experts say the stench is caused by extra runoff as snow melts into the Red River.
The Fargo water treatment plant's filtration process usually eliminates the compounds, but extra runoff made it more difficult to remove all traces.
The city says the water is fine to use for washing, showering and drinking.
"As far as monitoring with online instruments the water quality by EPA standards from a safety standpoint, it's very good," said Troy Hall of the Fargo Water Utilities Department.
The water is expected to return to normal within a week or so.
