A damaged mattress lays in the parking lot after being removed from an apartment bedroom fire in south Fargo.

FARGO — No one was hurt Friday, June 9, when an apartment fire damaged a bedroom in south Fargo.

Shortly after 3 p.m., authorities received reports of a fire at the Bella Vista Apartments at 825 42nd St. S. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered black smoke coming from a window on the ground level of the building, said Capt. Jared Hoover of the Fargo Fire Department.

Firefighters found flames in an apartment bedroom and were able to confine them to that room, Hoover said. No one was inside the apartment when the fire began, he said.

The building was evacuated while fire crews put out the blaze, building residents said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Hoover said.
