Mandan Republican announces bid for North Dakota secretary of state

Will Gardner

A Mandan Republican will run for secretary of state, challenging an incumbent that has held the office for more than two decades.

Will Gardner announced Wednesday morning via Facebook he would run for the office that has been held by Republican Secretary of State Al Jaeger since 1993. Gardner is a GOP chairman of the District 34 in Mandan.

"What I would like to do is bring us to the 21st century," he said in the video. "Government's role is to remove the roadblocks of the processes and the procedures and paperwork of bureaucracies."

Jaeger said he plans to run again for his seat, which is up for election in 2018.
