Fargo Public Schools business manager resigns

Body:

FARGO — The Fargo Public Schools business manager Broc Lietz has recently submitted his intent to resign.

School Board head Jim Johnson confirmed Thursday, Jan. 4, that the board will accept Lietz's resignation at the upcoming board meeting Tuesday, Jan. 9. The district's accounting director, Jackie Gapp, is being recommended to replace Lietz, Johnson said.

"I don't think anybody started the school year thinking this was going to occur," Johnson said. "For whatever reason he felt it was in the best interest of himself and the district to move on to other opportunities."

Johnson said he became aware of Lietz's resignation "right before Christmas" and Lietz is leaving under a separation agreement and in good standing. He said Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Schatz and the rest of the district staff is "well aware of the transition going on."

There were "some issues going on personal-wise [Lietz] was dealing with," Johnson said, but he did not say anything more on what prompted the resignation or what Lietz will do after his departure with the district.

Lietz, of Casselton, N.D., joined Fargo Public Schools in September 2010 and was responsible for the district's financial operations.

He was previously employed at North Dakota State University for eight years. He worked as NDSU's associate vice president for finance and administration.

His wife, Karen, is a teacher in the West Fargo School District.

A message left on Lietz's personal cellphone Thursday night was not returned.
