2 victims identified in collision with cow in western ND

MANDAREE, N.D. – Two men killed when the car they were riding in hit a cow and rolled into a ditch near here Friday have been identified.

Driver Kaleb Newel Steed, 27, Mountain Home, Idaho, and passenger Jake Alexander Holm, 19, St. George, Utah, were pronounced dead at the scene, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release Sunday.

The accident occurred at 10:29 p.m. about 12 miles east of Mandaree and 70 miles north of Dickinson, the Patrol reported.

The men were traveling eastbound on Bureau of Indian Affairs Highway 12 when their 1993 Honda Civic hit a black cow in the road about mile marker 15, the Patrol reported.

After hitting the cow, the vehicle left the road and entered the north ditch, flipping multiple times before coming to rest on its wheels.
