FARGO — The fire department is trying to figure out how a fire started inside the wall of a vacant apartment unit Wednesday, May 16.

At 7:30 p.m., crews responded to 913 3rd Ave. N. for a report of a structure fire. Residents were evacuated after an upstairs neighbor said he smelled something burning and called 911.

Fargo Battalion Chief Lee Soeth said firefighters had to bust out the wall to get to the fire, which was contained to the one vacant unit.

The cost of damage is unknown and the cause is undermined. Soeth said an investigation is underway to pinpoint how the "strange" fire originated.
