Downtown Fargo restaurant for sale
FARGO—A downtown eatery known for its homemade bread, soups and salads is for sale.
Owner Linda Kennedy recently listed Scratch Deli and Sandwich Co., 68 Broadway N., with Archer Commercial Real Estate Services.
The 66-year-old, who also works as a nurse for Sanford Health, said she's selling because it's become too difficult to do both.
"This wasn't supposed to be my endeavor," Kennedy explained. "It was my youngest son who came up with the concept with another cook."

She stepped in to run the deli after her son and his partners moved on because she believed in the concept.
Her employees have agreed to stay on for the time being, so Kennedy is taking the restaurant's future week by week.
"They could have probably bailed when they saw the (for sale) sign," Kennedy said. "I told them as long as they'd stay with me, we'd continue to stay open because I didn't just want to put up a sign on the door one day and say, 'That's it.' "
It took a long time to hire the excellent staff she has right now, so Kennedy hopes a new owner can be found.
"Part of the reason I've been hanging on even though I work seven days a week is because I didn't want them to be unemployed," she said.
She was also thinking of her customers.
"I didn't want to leave some of my customers who come in here every day and have been loyal to the deli since I took it over," she said.
In addition to the space, Kennedy has offered to provide buyers with all of her recipes.
"I've offered my recipes and everything here," she said. "I have a couple books I've been using. The rest comes out of my head, but I'm willing to teach someone if they're willing to do it."
