FARGO—An original tenant of West Acres Shopping Center will leave the mall next year to move downtown.

Owner Sue Rusch said Stabo Scandinavian Imports, which opened in 1972 in the then-new West Acres, 3902 13th Ave. S., will relocate to a Kilbourne Group-owned retail space at 406 Broadway N. next summer. The store is expected to open there by July 1, she said.

It's "time for a change," she said. The move will allow the Scandinavian gift and import store to have more flexibility in setting its own hours and get a larger space.

But it's mostly meant to move Stabo into the thick of the cluster of boutiques that now are spread throughout downtown Fargo.

"West Acres has been a great home, but we feel we fit in well with the other merchants downtown and the other independent gift retailers," she said.

Rusch, who bought the business in 1982 a decade after it opened in West Acres, said she expects there will be a short transition next summer as the store moves downtown.

Stabo will take over the former Arteka Architects office along Broadway that has been occupied since May by Pink Luxe Boutique. To keep up with the store's changes and move, visit

Owner Erica Meech said Pink Luxe will also move, taking over one of Kilbourne Group's new alley-facing commercial units of the Roberts Commons mixed-use apartment and commercial building now being built around the Roberts Commons parking ramp. Meech said she's been told she could reopen in that new space on April 1.
