Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity plans for summer 2019: Build three houses in 10 days
MOORHEAD — A lot can be done in 10 days, but building three separate houses might seem impossible. Yet, that's exactly what Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity plans to do in the summer of 2019.
On Thursday, July 12, Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity announced plans to partner with Blitz Home Builders for the organization's largest project to date: Building three homes between June 19 and June 29, 2019.
Pete Christopher, resource development and marketing manager for Lake Agassiz, said BHB chooses one out of nearly 1,400 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country for the build each year.
A site for the project has yet to be determined, but Christopher said it can be anywhere in Cass or Clay Counties.
The effort is a considerable undertaking and requires almost 1,500 volunteers, including almost a 100 from BHB, to plan and build the houses, as well as provide food and hospitality.
All three houses will be affordable housing, given to families whose income is 50 to 80 percent of the median average, Christopher said. The families will repay the cost of construction on an income-based mortgage.
The estimated funding required for the project is $500,000, he said.
