Man dies a week after falling asleep at the wheel, crashing into LaMoure County ditch
JUD, N.D. — An 89-year-old man died Monday, Sept. 10, after suffering injuries in a Sept. 3 crash five miles northwest of Jud, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
About 12:10 p.m. Sept. 3, Albert Oberlander was driving south on LaMoure County Road 65 when he fell asleep at the wheel, the patrol said.
The vehicle entered a ditch and flipped over a field fence before coming to a stop, the patrol said.
Oberlander, of Klum, N.D., was taken to the hospital where he died Monday from injuries suffered in the crash, the patrol said.
It is unknown whether he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Jud is a town located approximately halfway between Bismarck and Fargo.
