Justin Olien

Justin Olien

Justin Alfred Olien was born June 18th, 1998 in Fargo, ND to Curtis and Lynne (Mueller) Olien. He died May 18th, 2016 at the age of 17.

Justin was an incredibly accomplished young man, achieving a 4.0 GPA along with attaining his Eagle Scout rank. He also loved sports and fine arts; he was a starting Center for the Sheyenne Mustangs Football team, as well as active in Band, Choir, Pit Orchestra, and Theatre. He was a hunter/fisherman, and despite all this still found time for a job he loved at Osgood Hornbacher's in Fargo. Finally, his ability to roll off one liners and puns was second to none.

Justin was a Junior at West Fargo Sheyenne High School, where he was recently named a finalist as a Distinguished Student through the ND High School Activities Association. Justin's goal was to become a music and math teacher.

Justin excelled in music festivals and competitions at both the state and local levels. His love for music went beyond the organized ensembles he participated in, permeating his everyday life. He enjoyed the piano, composing several pieces that exhibited his understanding of the many finite aspects of music. Much of his free time was spent working on a choral arrangement of a traditional folk tune. Justin loved to spend time with his family and friends, whether it was during school activities, scouting, outdoor sports, or family time. He was an incredible, selfless, and caring individual who will be missed by so many.

Justin was preceded in death by his brother, Nathan Olien. He is survived by his parents, Curtis and Lynne, brother Ryan and sister Rebecca; Grandparents Byron and Barb Olien, Mott, ND; Grandparents Marla and Tom Nelson, Minnetonka, MN; Grandfather Bill Mueller, Chanhassen, MN; Aunt Brenda, Uncle Scott, cousins Tyler and Sidni Kast, Minot, ND; Aunt Jeannie, Uncle Rob, cousins Kyle and Adam Paris, Dayton, MN; Aunt Amy, Uncle Greg, cousins Austin and Hayden Brown, Menomonee Falls, WI; Uncle Steve, Aunt Nicole, cousins Emily and Alex, Milwaukee, WI; along with so many friends and family.

Visitation will be on Sunday, May 22nd at West Funeral Home, 226 4th Ave W, West Fargo, ND 58078 from 5:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23rd at 4 pm at Hope Lutheran South Campus at 3636 25th St S in Fargo, ND 58104. Bright color dress only please. No Black allowed.
