Betty Ann (Brenna) Erickson

Betty Ann (Brenna) Erickson, longtime resident of Woodbury, Minn., passed peacefully on Sept. 11, 2017, following a journey with Alzheimer's disease. She was 84.

Betty Brenna was born Aug. 26, 1933 to Hilda (Syverson) and Morris Brenna on a rural Ulen, Minn., farm. She graduated from Ulen High School in 1951, and went on to attend Moorhead State Teacher's College in Moorhead, Minn. She then taught fifth grade in the Hawley (Minn.) School District.

Betty was united in marriage to Roy Erickson on March 23, 1956 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen. Together, they raised one son and six daughters, with moves to Kansas and Utah, before finally settling in Woodbury.

Betty was a sports enthusiast, cheering on her favorite teams from the junior high school to professional levels. She will always be remembered for her baking skills and love of her Norwegian heritage.

She was preceded in death by son, Randy, her parents, and siblings Gale, Marilyn, Joyce and Mike.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Roy; daughters Lori Schmidt (Helmut), Liz Erickson (Brian Raney), Lydia McKay (Steve), Lea Brynestad (Dave), Lynne Erickson, and Luanne Anderson, along with her greatest legacy, her 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three siblings, Barbara Hilde, Clair Brenna, and Cheryl Brenna.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Lutheran Church of Peace, 47 Century Ave. S., Maplewood, Minn., with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. The service will be followed by a luncheon. A private family burial will be held at Union Cemetery, Maplewood.
