Richard Lee Stilson, 85, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 in Fargo, ND surrounded by family.
Richard was born in Franklin County, IA in his maternal grandparent's home on June 16, 1932. His parents were Ross and Genetta Stilson. He went to school in a one room country schoolhouse in Franklin County, IA and graduated from Hampton High School, Hampton, IA in 1950. He married Darlene Diekman on February 18, 1953 in Hampton, IA. He attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army from 1952 to 1954. He was an employee of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 31 plus years. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Lions Club. He was a member of the Walker Community Church in Walker, MN. Richard was a devoted husband and a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be dearly missed. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved the outdoors.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty, and 2 infant siblings. Richard is survived by his wife Darlene; two daughters Rochelle (John) Bush of Audubon, MN, Rebecca (Daryl) Sondgeroth of Mendota, IL; brother William (Kay) Stilson; three grandchildren Taylor (Dylan) Dockter, Matt (Kaitlynn) Sondgeroth, and Adam Sondgeroth; three step-granddaughters Stephanie Sauby, Amanda (Dustin) Korynta, and Jennifer Bush (Albert Garcia); 3 great grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
