Letter: We commend recent 'Inclusive Community' resolution
We commend the Moorhead City Council and the Fargo City Commission for passing a resolution supporting an inclusive community in our two cities. Now, more than ever, people of good will must be crystal clear that there is no room in our midst for "racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance," as written in the resolution. This resolution affirms our community's long-standing commitment to "establish and maintain a welcoming and inclusive community" that respects "all persons, regardless of race, religion, gender identification, sexual orientation, age, ability, [and] country of origin..."
Although a resolution like this is very helpful, the measure of our commitment to these principles will be apparent in our actions. Every member of our community can choose to participate in thoughtful and respectful conversations, to display a spirit of welcome to newcomers, and to renew our commitment to acting justly and compassionately for the good of all.
