Letter: More apartments equates to more parking issues for nearby homeowners
I live on the 700 block of Seventh Avenue North. The east end of my block faces a graceful old wood frame apartment house with a large lawn. A few months ago a neighbor told me about the planned apartment building there. I was dismayed.
I also heard about the tax breaks the developer was seeking. My neighbor wondered where the cars for these new tenants will park. Street parking in my neighborhood is already difficult due to the number of vehicles.
The expected rent for the units will be more than is affordable by median-income folks in Fargo, let alone people with lower incomes, and these rapidly multiplying apartment buildings are definitely changing the look and character of the neighborhood.
The Fargo City Commission's decision to go ahead with the tax breaks for this development is most certainly a disappointment.
