Letter: You can't support abortion while lobbying for stricter gun laws 'to protect children'
Mass killing of children or adults with bombs, guns, knives, vehicles driven into crowds or other means are horrible events. Thousands of other horrible events happen every day at abortion facilities around our nation. The lives of over 800,000 unborn babies are snuffed out each year. Since the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973 over 50 million have been slaughtered.
The right to life is a cornerstone of our Declaration of Independence. The right to keep and bear arms is part of our U.S. Constitution. Neither document approves taking innocent human life.
On the other hand, abortion on demand was the decision of seven men on the U.S. Supreme Court who suddenly discovered the "right" to murder innocents. That is a disgrace and black mark on our country.
Let's keep guns out of the hands of kooks. Let's secure our schools. Let's do that instead of denying guns to law-abiding Americans who have a right to protect themselves and for recreational activities.
Many politicians who want to infringe on our Second Amendment rights to "protect the children" also support the killing of children through abortion on demand. These same politicians award hundreds of millions of our tax dollars to Planned Parenthood, our nation's biggest provider of abortions. Some politicians, including Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, would not even vote to prohibit abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. This kind of disregard for life must end.
