Letter: Kavanaugh is clearly qualified to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court
I live in rural North Dakota and believe I am squarely at the center of North Dakota values. My family and I farm. At times, it is difficult to point to the political battles in Washington, D.C., and explain to our children the back-and-forth, partisan bickering that seems to dominate our government institutions.
Take the Kavanaugh confirmation process as the most recent and loud example. Judge Kavanaugh has clearly demonstrated his willingness to cooperate with members of the Senate as they determine his qualifications for the Supreme Court of the United States. The Kavanaugh confirmation team has shared an unprecedented volume of documents and public records. His judicial track record is clear, having issued more than 307 opinions from the DC Circuit Court, along with more than 100 dissenting opinions.
Kavanaugh is clearly qualified to serve as the next associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and demonstrably within the mainstream of conservative temperament and philosophy. Yet Democrat leaders in Washington oppose his confirmation. They are doing everything in their power to slow down or stall the confirmation process.
I suggest that all political leaders set aside partisan bickering and proceed to hearings and and up or down vote on confirmation. It is time to move the country and the court forward. I support the confirmation of Kavanaugh. I hope the U.S. Senate and Sen. Heitkamp do as well.
